Community Gift Tree

The Community Gift Tree is a collaborative effort between the El Dorado County Office of Education, Child Development Programs, Choices for Children and Family Connections to provide their clients with gifts for the winter holiday. These three organizations provide early care, education and counseling services to income eligible families on the Western Slope. This group was formed in 2006 and has been very successful in providing a place for community members to help those less fortunate and to insure all children are remembered during the holiday season.

This holiday season share the gift of giving to a child or family in our community. Visit one of the Community Gift Trees at Placerville Library, Cameron Park Library, El Dorado Hills Library, Main Street Court House, Wal-Mart, Save-Mart and select a card.

Holiday Exhibit at the El Dorado County Historical Museum

The County Museum's Holiday Exhibit will be in place from November 15, 2009 to January 10, 2010. Using the County Museum's collection of antique dolls as inspiration, this year's Holiday exhibit highlights Victorian era dolls and toys in Christmas setting. The County Museum is located next to the Fairgrounds at 104 Placerville Dr. in Placerville. The Museum is open Wednesday - Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM, Sunday, 12 PM - 4 PM. Please note, the County Museum will be closed the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas.

The Valhalla Holiday Faire

Approximately thirty of the finest crafters and the most exceptional holiday boutiques will be selling unique gifts, seasonal crafts and ornaments. Only the highest quality, hand-made items will be on display. If you are looking for something special as a gift for your home, this will be the place to find it. Meet the Author and Illustrator of "A Glittering Pot of Gold"

Book signings at the County Museum will also occur December 5, 12-3 and December 19, 12-3. Book Signing at the El Dorado County Historical Museum at 104 Placerville Dr. (next to the Fairgrounds) Local historian and author Lisa Butler has written a book based upon first person narratives, manuscripts, photographs and other archival materials that chronicle El Dorado County's remarkable past. Local artist and historian Carol Sexton has provided original illustrations. Meet the author and artist at special book signing events. Proceeds from this new book will support El Dorado County Historical Museum and the El Dorado County Historical Society programs.

Cameron Park Rotary Club Community Observatory

The Cameron Park Rotary Club Community Observatory, Folsom Lake College, El Dorado Center, invites the public to let trained docents show the many celestial wonders of the universe through two 14 inch telescopes.

The observatory is open to the public on weekend evenings (weather permitting), Folsolm Lake College, El Dorado Center, Campus Drive, continue through the back parking lost to the left of the observatory gate.

NEW TRAIL PREVIEW HIKE-SOUTH FORK AMERICAN RIVER

Saturdays: Sept. 5, Sept. 26, Oct. 10, Oct. 24 (run only date), Nov. 7, Nov. 21 NEW TRAIL PREVIEW HIKE-SOUTH FORK AMERICAN RIVER (CRONAN RANCH TO SALMON FALLS BRIDGE) 9 AM – 1 PM.

This trail is newly constructed and not yet open to the public. It is being offered as a fundraiser to assist ARC complete construction of the trail’s final segments. Hiking distance is approximately 8 miles with easy to moderate hiking. Our hike will take us along the west ridge of the Cronan Ranch down to the South Fork American River with beautiful views of the Coloma-Lotus Valley and the South Fork American River Canyon. It will proceed downstream from the Cronan Ranch through mixed oak woodland and conifer with occasional views of the lower American River gorge. Just upstream of Satan’s Cesspool, we’ll emerge into mixed chaparral-covered slopes and then back into beautiful blue oak woodland recently acquired by ARC. Finally, our group will emerge onto a long-running ridge with excellent views of upper Folsom Lake and the Sacramento Valley. The trail will drop down to Acorn Creek and the site of ARC’s pedestrian bridge construction project and on to the Skunk Hollow Parking Lot at the Salmon Falls Bridge and Folsom Lake. A shuttle bus will pick up our group at the Skunk Hollow parking lot and return us to our cars at the Cronan Ranch trailhead by approximately 1 p.m. Fit 10-year-olds+ welcome. Rain or shine.

19th Annual Run/Walk Turkey Trot

Cameron Park Recreation "Turkey Trot will be held at Cameron Park Lake. The run/walk will feature long and short distance races for families and individuals. The youth division begins at 9:00 am sharp, and Junior and Adult Divisions begin at 9:30 am.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each age division. There will also be a drawing for prizes at the conlusion of the run. A T-shirt is included with the registration fee - limited shirts available day of the race.

Cost before November 13th is $23. After the 13th it is $30.

KDD- WILD OUTDOOR CREATIVITY UNDER THE TREES Saturday, November 21st 12:30 – 2:30 pm Kids, teens, and adults of all ages are encouraged to join in celebrating the creative spirit in response to Fall. We'll work with watercolor and ink, using sticks and other found objects, as well as pen, brush, and crayon to explore lighthearted, fun, and easy ways to create spontaneous imagery in response to autumn's colors and subjects. Bring lunch and wear clothes that are OK to paint and play in. For all experience levels. Andie Thrams, painter, educator, and local book artist will be teaching this class.
